 A NEW piece of malware is making the rounds among Android phones - which is targeting people's banking apps. Cybersecurity experts have warned millions of Android users of the new hacking scheme - which gives scammers full control over people's phones. Beyond targeting banking apps and being able to track its victims locations, the malware also targets WhatsApp. Through this malware, known to experts as Hook, hackers are able to gain complete remote control over an Android device. This means that fraudsters are able to access photos, messages, apps and notes without Android users knowing anything is awry. Cybersecurity experts at ThreatFabric raised the alarm on the malicious scheme earlier this month. "Hook now joins the very dangerous ranks of malware which is able to perform a full attack chain from infection to fraudulent transaction," researchers wrote in a recent report.  An Enugu Magistrate court has reportedly awarded the sum of N150,000 in damages to a man in his suit against a lady who dishonoured an agreement. The woman had received N3,000 from him as transport fare on the premise that she will visit him, but she failed to show up. He then dragged her to court for obtaining money under false pretenses and she was ordered by the chief magistrate to pay him N150k. The petitioner told the court that after he sent her the money, she switched off her phone. The case was shared by a lawyer known on Twitter as @egi_nupe, who said the magistrate awarded damages against the lady to serve as a deterrent.  On January 16, 2023, a high court in Osun State sentenced six people to death on murder and armed robbery charges. These people would join other inmates awaiting death penalty sentencing.  The death penalty in Nigeria has been under debate for years, as some call it inhumane and archaic. In contrast, others see it as ineffective since these executions are rarely carried out.  Eighteen persons have died and forty others were injured in a fatal motor accident in Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The accident involved a truck carrying passengers and a herd of cattle. The spokesman of the Kebbi State Police Command Nafiu Abubakar, who confirmed the development late Monday, said it occurred at the Malisa junction of Gwandu Local  Government Area of the North-West state. He explained that the Sunday accident involved a yet-to-be-identified driver of a truck with Reg. No. SRP 442 XA, Niger State, conveying passengers and cows from the Illela council area to Lagos. The truck then lost control at Malisa Junction and fell, resulting in the accident that also caused the death of sixteen cows.
